Breakout
Breakout is the classic paddle-and-ball arcade game first built by Atari in 1976. A wall of bricks fills the top of the screen; you slide a paddle along the bottom and bounce a ball up to chip them away. Clear every brick across four hand-built levels — but lose the ball off the bottom three times and the game is over.
How to play
- Slide the paddle left and right with your mouse, touch, or the arrow keys.
- Launch the resting ball, then keep it in play by bouncing it off the paddle.
- Steer the ball by where it strikes the paddle — an edge hit sends it off at a steep angle.
- Break every brick to clear a level; tougher bricks take two or three hits.
- Catch falling power-up capsules to widen or shrink the paddle, slow the ball, or split it into multiple balls.
- Clear all four levels to win, but lose all three lives and the run ends.
Tips
- The paddle steers — strike the ball with its edge to send it where the bricks still stand.
- Chase the multi-ball capsule; several balls at once tear through a wall fast.
- When the ball is loose near the top it can rattle along a row — let it work for you.
FAQ
- Is Breakout free to play?
- Yes. Breakout runs free in your browser with no installs, downloads, or sign-up, on both desktop and mobile.
- How do you win Breakout?
- You win by clearing every brick across all four levels. The run ends if you lose the ball off the bottom three times.
